Sycamore Seed Phytogram on 16mm Film, Sound

The sycamore seed carries a presence of wind embedded within its own structure. Its wing holds a material memory of aeolian movement within its physical form.
Sycamore seeds were collected and soaked in a solution of water, washing soda, and vitamin C powder before being placed directly onto the fogged 16mm film; leaving ghostly imprints.
Through the sycamore seed’s direct contact with the film, the surface becomes a physical manifestation of the wind.
The sonic element of the work involved recording wind on a tape loop cassette, creating a continuous movement embedded within its magnetic surface, that extends the material traces of wind into sound.
